What to expect
As your coach, I act as the sat nav during the session, giving a framework for us to explore your outcome.
My role is to help you to notice other roads that are in your blind spot, to take you off your normal, well trodden route and explore all the options. At times this may not make complete sense or feel odd to you as it is new ground. But it is in these new areas we often find the answers we hadn’t considered previously.
We will plot the route at the start of each session, with you deciding where we are heading. However you ultimately are driving the car and provide the fuel. You will be responsible for the speed and progress in which you reach your goal.
My style as a coach is to get to the heart of the issue.
I will ask questions that will go deeper than what is already in your conscious awareness.
With curiosity and compassion, together we will explore what is really going on.
What is keeping you stuck?
What is missing?
What is stopping you from being where you would rather be, if you know that is what your heart desires?
I look more deeply because I want you to have the shift you are looking for.
For any change you want to be sustained and not just be a quick fix. If we only work on the superficial, it is likely that the old patterns will slip back in and you will end up back where you started.
I want to help you get results that last.
Therefore being comfortable with reflecting and looking inward is part of the process.
The sessions will generative and future-focused, encouraging you to cultivate your strengths and refine your ‘inner game’, reconnecting and aligning yourself in the process.
As well as you achieving your goal now, it will enable you to respond better in the future to any challenges you may face.
In the first session we will explore what it is you want to have coaching on, gaining insight and clarity. I approach each session with a flexible approach, tailoring the method and tools we use to you.
You will have security of knowing what ever is discussed, the session is a confidential space for you to explore how to best move forward for you.
How does coaching differ from counselling?
People have counselling for a variety of reasons but the overarching commonality is their mood and mental health is being negatively impacted by their past. The counsellor will explore where you are at now and diagnose any issues. They will unpick what has been to help someone understand the impact of past experiences. Progress is therefore slower paced as you will deep dive in to your past in great detail.
Coaching assumes that the person is already whole and complete. Coaches do not diagnose, treat or fix. Your coach will use a framework in which you gain clarity about where you are in the current moment and what specifically your future goals are. You will be able to define what your aspiration or desired outcome is. Coaching is therefore future focused, working with you to move from where you are today to a more desirable destination. We focus on the possibilities ahead, not past mistakes or problems..
A good analogy is when driving a car we check our rear view mirror at times to see if there is any helpful information we can gather that will help us on our journey forward, but we do not stare at the past. We have a forward momentum to get to where we want to be.
In coaching, if necessary we can work on an area content free. If part of your stuck-ness is around something of which you don’t wish to discuss the detail , we can still address it in a session.
How long will it take?
Change in coaching can occur in as little as one or two sessions when the outcome is well defined. Some goals may be larger and need more sessions to fully develop. A qualified coach has tried and tested tools and strategies to help you unlock your full potential, create change and fulfil a new way of being.
The pace of progress is set by you. It will also be directed by how quickly you are able to take on and utilise the new skills you’ve learnt day to day. You are in full control in setting the goals and outcomes you seek and the coach will facilitate you in that process.
is coaching for you?
Changing our old patterns and behaviours does require a commitment to your personal development. You need to choose to make the change, to invest and show up for yourself. To put your desires centre stage be prepared to do the work. Much like joining a gym in January and engaging a personal trainer with the intent to ‘get fit’ this year you need to commit to doing the workouts to see a difference.
If that is where you are, then get in touch to take the next step.
scope of practice
My scope of practice outlines what I do and don’t do as a coach. As mentioned above, in coaching we work from a position that you are psychologically well and do not need treatment. To move forward you require some help to become unstuck, to clarify what it is you need to get you where you would rather be.
I can help you in any area of your personal development and growth. As well as recognising areas where thought patterns or current behaviours are preventing you from fulfilling your full potential, you can gather the resources to find balance and thrive in life .
If you require a mixture of work on past events as well as what is required to move forward in life, I can work with you alongside a therapist, by prior agreement. I can provide a framework in which to explore your goals, your future and what comes next after therapy or counselling.

When we deny our stories, they define us.
When we own our stories, we get to write a brave new ending.
