From Apprehension to Calm

A programme designed to help you
take back control from anxiety

what is anxiety?

Anxiety is a normal part of our human make-up and an emotion we all have from time to time. It is typically defined as something we experienced when we think of a future event and the possible negative outcomes. If you dig down to the root of what is driving the anxiety, it is usually the fear of something negative happening to us. It’s intent is positive. It is designed to keep us safe. For example it is what stops us from running out into traffic or from jumping from a large height and getting hurt.

Anxiety becomes an issue for us when:

  • it is impacting the choices you make, how you behave and what you want to do

  • a thought is obsessive and you can’t them off

  • you have a sense of foreboding that has become your ‘norm’ and seems to linger most of the time

  • feeling anxious is dominant state in your day, irrespective of what you are doing

Once we get in to a chronic state of feeling fearful and stressed, the pattern of anxiety can become a dominant factor in how we view the world.

Through this filter, the sense of anxiety can be become generalised. It begins to spread into all our experiences of life.

  • Ruminating about the outcome of everyday stresses

  • Worrying about what other people think and fear of judgement or rejection

  • Spending hours making sure something is ‘just right’ or perfect before being able to take a break, missing meals or forgetting to go to the loo

  • Avoiding social situations or putting yourself out there by speaking up in public

Or it may be showing up unexpectedly, and you have no idea what triggered the feeling.

When anxiety has been part of your life for over 6 months, you may experience that it is the fear of feeling anxious or the fear being triggered that become your main focus.

You can spend a large amount of time thinking about how you can avoid it.

You develop strategies that ensure you do not put yourself in a position that could leave you feeling anxious or trigger a panic attack.

Once you are experiencing this, anxiety becomes a limiting factor in your life.

Stopping you from doing things you used to enjoy. Not going to see people you used to see. Avoiding invitations, opting to stay in instead. Or it blocks you from trying anything new.

In an attempt to avoid the feelings and anxiety, your world becomes smaller, less stimulating and less enjoyable.

If this is where you are, I would like to bust the myth that this is the way it has to stay.

You do not have to live your life with the background nervous tension that you are experiencing right now. I have helped many people make the shifts that allow you to become freer. To wake up feeling recharged and energised. To have the self belief and confidence to go and live your day with out the fear of what might happen or dictating what you choose to do.

what others have said…

‘‘What I personally liked about the workshop was how everyone was open and honest. It was a support to know others felt and were going through the same as we are.

Lydia you were brilliant at explaining the way anxiety can affect different people and giving us some tools to help support like the breathing activities and the giving them choices. I particularly liked the way you explained the ladder of emotions and reactions. It really made sense and put a lot into prospective for us.  Thank you again for such a brilliant informative workshop.’’

‘‘Prior to the Angst to Calm workshop I often catastrophised situations, but the workshop taught me to become aware of my thoughts escalating and provided a tools to help manage my thoughts & de escalate them.’’

‘‘Lydia is a people person and delivers the workshop with warmth and humour, putting me immediately at ease.
I found Lydia's workshop to be very informative and helpful with several ideas to help me recognise when anxiety is triggered and how to deal with it in a resourceful and proactive way. I found it especially useful for identifying what my triggers are and my default reaction to them.’’

attending to support someone else

‘‘Over the last few years my teenage son has suffered extreme anxiety. When it began, I didn't recognise the  subtle signs he wasn't able to hide from me. Following the workshop I now feel more aware of the behaviours to be alert to that would indicate he needs additional support.’’

‘‘The main issue before attending the workshop was how to support my daughter with her anxiety and mental well-being. Things are better now as I feel myself and my husband have a greater insight to the daily challenges our daughter faces and how she reacts to things, and how we can support her. I feel we have a better understanding of how the anxiety can take over and how we can help stop things escalating before it’s too late and our daughter is in full melt down mode.’’
